Middle Kinglake Primary School has been striving towards environmental and academic excellence in all of its 112 years of existence.  Prior to the fires in 2009, we had been working towards establishing more indigenous/ sustainable gardens and enhancing our environmental awareness and practice.  Since the fires we were in a temporary location and commenced our ResouceSmart AUSSIVic certification process in 2010, having already become a Wastewise School in 2007. Whilst in the temporary home we were able to establish vegetable gardens which we will be able to move to our new premises for the start of the 2011 school year.  We have implemented envronmental action teams and continue our lunchtime group (Tree Troops) and look forward to continuing our sustainable practices in our new location. In our new school location, we have established vegetable beds, a frog-bog, worm farm, chook run, greenhouse and shade house, and the plantation of new garden beds with contributions from local artists to the garden landscape.
